NEW YORK, USA – His Majesty King Mswati III has called for the United Nations to establish ad hoc committees to mediate the global conflicts.<\/p>\n
Addressing the 80th General Assembly. The King proposed these committees to tackle escalating global tensions, reinforcing the UN\u2019s founding mission to foster peace.<\/p>\n
He urged the committees, to be supported by the UN Secretariat, to visit conflict zones and engage directly with communities to broker solutions.<\/p>\n
Focusing on Africa, His Majesty highlighted conflicts in Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, the Sahel, and the Great Lakes, advocating for equitable representation to ensure all affected nations have a voice.<\/p>\n
In the Middle East, he suggested the committees facilitate dialogue, asking Palestinians what it would take to release hostages and Israelis what would halt bombardments, to prevent further loss of life and property.<\/p>\n

Regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the King proposed that the committees mediate discussions to identify peace pathways and provide actionable recommendations to the UN.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must remind ourselves that when the United Nations was established in 1945, it was during a time of widespread global strife,\u201d he said. \u201cNow is the time to ask ourselves what has gone wrong and what steps must be taken to correct these challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n
He emphasised that this approach complements existing peace efforts, warning against actions that escalate tensions. \u201cMillions of lives have already been lost during the Covid-19 pandemic. We therefore, cannot afford to lose any more to conflicts,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
